<abstract displayLabel="Summary">The aim of this paper is to asses the role of export insurance the role of export insurance systems in the European Union at the light of the proposal for a Council Directive on harmonization of the export insurance main provisiones. The authors argue that the incentives induced by the proposed Directive are hardly compatible with the aim of the European Union to greatly reduce or eliminate competitive distorsions on exports, given the existing rates of subsidization and the relationship framework between public and private insurers that still remains unsolved</abstract>
