<abstract>Como se explica en este artículo, la respuesta a la tensión es un proceso complejo; la asociación que existe entre el consumo de alcohol y la tensión es aún más complicada. En razón de que el comportamiento derivado del consumo de alcohol y la respuesta del individuo a la tensión están determinados por múltiples factores genéticos y ambientales, el estudio del vínculo entre el consumo de alcohol y la tensión puede proveernos mayores conocimientos sobre el comportamiento derivado del consumo de alcohol. Los altos niveles de tensión pudieran influir en el consumo de alcohol cuando hay falta de recursos alternos, se tiene acceso al alcohol y se cree que éste ayuda a reducirla. La tensión crónica puede inhibir el crecimiento, dañar el sistema inmunológico y el menoscabar el aprendizaje y la memoria</abstract>
