This article summarizes the main findings of a major two-phase study was commissioned by the ClimatE Change Working Group of the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiatives (UNEPFI) and was aimed at corporate decision-makers at executive board level and key government policy makers. The article concludes by discussing some particular issues for the insurance industry. The study shows why climate change is relevant to the financial services industry and explains the need for long-tern, market-based frame works to foster finance sector participation.
