<abstract>Una vez más, ha sido una catástrofe ecológica, económica y social la que ha traído el mar a los titulares de periódicos, noticiarios de radio y televisión, revistas ... y esta vez, como nunca antes, al debate de la opinión pública: el siniestro del buque "Prestige", con sus miles de toneladas de fuel vertidas al mar. En este contexto, se hacen necesarios algunos datos y reflexiones que nos permitan acercarnos al estado de la seguridad marítima en su conjunto, sus problemas y sus retos de futuro</abstract>
