<abstract>Este artículo estudia las transformaciones del sector bancario brasileño, comporando sus características, su peso dentro del sistema financiero, la composición de sus costes, y sus actividades, especialmente las crediticias, con las de otros países. Asimismo, analiza los problemas más importantes a los que tendrá que hacer frente dicho sector para ser más eficaz, más competitivo, no perder las oportunidades que ahora se le ofrecen, y conseguir que los ciudadanos de rentas más bajas tengan más fácil acceso a sus servicios</abstract>
