The identification of suspects by witnesses is central to the investigations of crimes. Often the crime is committed in the presence of witnesses, including the victims of the crime; other witnesses, too, can often identify suspects, even they did not see the criminal act directly. An alternative is a subjective feature-based mug shot retrieval systems in which witnesses first complete a questionare about the apparence of the suspect, and then examine phtograhs in order of decreasing resemblance of the description
