<abstract>Asbestos is the biggest industrial disease we have ever known in the UK. It is killing about 4,000 people per year and things are going to get worse before they get better. The regulations for the control of asbestos were a long time in gestation. The first indication given by the HSE that they intended to introduce this regulation was in a Consultative Document CD129 in April 1998</abstract>
