<abstract>La sostenibilidad financiera de los sistemas de pensiones en Europa, y también en España, está bajo debate. Los gobiernos europeos deben enfrentarse al problema y los ciudadanos deben estar informados para tomar sus propias decisiones y adaptarse a los cambios. En la primera parte de este artículo se recogen, de forma armonizada, los principales resultados de los distintos estudios que analizan la evolución del gasto de pensiones en España. La conclusión general es que el gasto del sistema de pensiones contributivas alcanzará niveles difícilmente soportables en las próximas décadas debido al envejecimiento de la población. En la segunda parte del trabajo, se analiza cómo las ganancias de productividad se trasladan a las pensiones y, más concretamente, al efecto sobre el ratio de pensión media-productividad media</abstract>
