<abstract>Stung by charges that CAPPS II (Computer-Assisted Passenger Prescreening System) would be an Orwellian assault on civil liberties, TSA became defensive in mid 2003. There were quick concessions: CAPPS II not consider medical records, would attach no significance to a bad credit history, and would allow travelers to apeal their "selectee" status. But concerns about privacy intensified when it was revealed that certain airlines had provided passengers data to goverment contractors, which were developing models to identify high-risk travelers </abstract>
