<abstract>The point in quoting these studies and their differing outcomes is to provide evidence that valid rating scales should not be designed by the practitioner without some careful thought. Too many people succumb to the temptation to throw together a scale on the back of an envelope, giving inexpensive and rapid results with no guarantee of validity</abstract>
