<abstract>Records of taxes collected during the seventeenth and eighteenteh centuries contribute to understanding of climatic variability of the subtropical North Atlantic region. The reconstructed NAO (North Atlantic Oscillation) shows  the most important climatic patterns in the northern hemispherers, and it has been used to reconstruct a precipitation proxy for the Canary Islands for the period 1585-1836</abstract>
