<abstract>The ageing population in Europe is raising concerns over the financing of future pensions expenditure. For several decades, insurance companies across Europe have developed pension insurance products which play a crucial role in the provision of pension revenue. This paper seeks to estimate the size of the pension market as a whole, to determine the current role of insurers in the market and identify the potential for future development of this market.</abstract>
