Título: Combined effects of contaminant desorption and toxicity on risk from PAH contaminated sediments / Leslie M. Shor... [et al.]
Notas: The EPA has estimated that 10% of the sediment underlying U.S. surface waters are "sufficiently contaminated with toxics pollutants to pose potential risk to humans". Since all contaminated sediment cannot possibly be treated, more accurate ways of predicting relative risks are urgently needed. In this study, consideration for the combined effects of compound-specific biovailability and toxicity resulted in risk estimates up to 2 orders of magnitude lower than those calculated using EPA default parameters. Results from the current EPA approach also differed from this approach in gauging the relative contribution of various compounds to total risk, and the relative magnitude of risk among contaminated study sediments and various sediment fractionsRegistros relacionados: En: Risk analysis : an international journal. - New York and London. - nº 5, October 2004 ; p. 1109-1120Materia / lugar / evento: Residuos tóxicos y peligrosos Enfermedades pulmonares Cáncer Carcinogénesis Factores de riesgo Higiene industrial Hidrocarburo aromático policíclico Otros autores: Shor, Leslie M.
