<abstract displayLabel="Summary">La concentración media ponderada en el tiempo se viene utilizando como un índice representativo de la dosis externa de los contaminantes químicos presentes en el aire de los lugares de trabajo. Sin embargo, el control biológico de los compuestos químicos presentes en el ambiente de trabajo, mediante detereminaciones analíticas en especímenes biológicos recogidos del trabajador se puede utilizar como índice representativo de dosis interna y, por tanto, compararlo con valores límite biológicos. En este trabao se hace una revisión de diversos aspectos relacionados con el control biológico tales como metodologías, biomarcadores, especímenes biológicos, estrategia de muestreo, procedimientos analíticos y valores límite biologícos.</abstract>
