Ils sont accouplés à un conteneur, récipient séparable servant à leur transport jusqu'au site de valorisation. On les distingue des compacteurs réservés, por des raisons d'hygiène, au compactage des denrées périssables. Les compacteurs sont des machines dangereuses. Ils sont à l'origine d'accidents graves, dont certains mortels</abstract>
