<abstract displayLabel="Summary">El presente artículo aborda algunos de los aspectos sismológicos relativos a este terremoto, describe las dificultades que supone modelizar el evento a efectos de estimación de daños y pérdidas, y ofrece algunos resultados de las observaciones de campo obtenidos poco después del seísmo. El artículo expone brevemente cómo este evento puede haber modificado la configuración sísmica y el potencial de futuros terremotos en la región de Chile</abstract>
