<abstract displayLabel="Summary">Teniendo en cuenta el elevado número de accidentes laborales que pueden provocar incluso la muerte del operario y que ocurren anualmente como consecuencia de la manipulación de maquinaria industrial, así como considerando los principales riesgos asociados a estas máquinas, y con el objeto de eliminarlos o reducirlos en la medida de lo posible para prevenir el accidente, se presenta un Sistema de Seguridad Laboral basado en Visión Artificial. Este sistema desarrollado, que funciona como un Sistema de Seguridad Activa (SSA), se diferencia de los sistemas de protección existentes en el sector industrial hasta el momento de su aparición en que evita que ocurra el accidente laboral como consecuencia de la detección inmediata de la máquina ante la presencia de riesgos en su entorno durante su funcionamiento, mientras que con los sistemas de protección tradicionales el propósito no es evitar el accidente, sino atenuar sus consecuencias. </abstract>
