A company-owned insurance operation provides direct access to reinsurance markets, customized insurance coverage that fills gaps in the commercial market, access to accrued investment income, and incentive to improve loss control. The thinking of many risk managers is simply, why trade dollars with an insurance company when you don't have to?</dc:description>
