Faced with such a diverse range of intangible risks, how can organisations prevent themselves falling victim to hype cycles triggered into action as a result of outside influences? The 2019 Global Risk Landscape report found that almost three quarters 74 per cent of respondents believed that so-called grey rhino events (highly obvious risks) are being ignored in favour of black swans (events that deviate from what is normally expected).
