<abstract displayLabel="Summary">Around the globe, the take-up of electric cars is expected to accelerate rapidly in future, driven by consumer demand and government policies aimed at tackling climate change. It is estimated that there could be more than 100 million such vehicles on the roads in 2030 compared with around seven million today. The future of transport is clearly electric, but the transition from fossil fuels will not be easy, and will lead to a fundamental change in risk for car manufacturers, suppliers and insurers alike.</abstract>
