<subfield code="a">Insurers have long lagged behind other industries when it comes to digital capabilities, and they know it, but industry disruption is nearing a tipping point, where incumbents either catch up or fall off. Several forces of change are driving legacy insurers to digitally transform. The biggest catalyst for change is competition. Competition between incumbents is becoming fiercer, as a concentration of large premiums in the hands of fewer players has left the rest to fight for scraps and while the pandemic has put a damper on fundin, upstarts are still posing a big threat to industry leaders. To combat these threats in the near term, we expect insurers will focus less on building in-house, and more on buying and partnering.</subfield>
