<abstract displayLabel="Summary">The Joint comittee on Health Insurance appointed a subcommitee, known as Task Force 4, to study the problems of reserves for accident and health insurance. The Task Force, made up of insurance company and trade association representatives, under the chair manship of John H. Miller, worked with a subcommittee of the Accident and Health Committee of the National Association of Insurance Com missioners. The final report of the Task Force, including basic tables of net annual claim costs for hospital and surgical expense insurance, was adopted by the NAIC at the December 1956 meeting. This final report, excluding the tables, is reproduced at the end of this paper as Appendix A. We have prepared 30 tables, appearing at the end of this paper, for use in valuing hospital and surgical expense insurance in accordance with the recommendations of Task Force 4.</abstract>
