In spite of the drop in the number of campaigns during 2022, we see a steady increase in the number of funds using activist strategies targeting European companies. Alvarez & Marsal is currently tracking 96 such funds, up from 93 in 2021 and 89 in 2020. Our analysis of these funds shows that the early dominance of US-based activist funds is giving way to a growing band of European funds, especially funds based in the UK. We also note the small but growing number of funds based in Asia/Pacific that are now targeting European companies. | ||
