The Climate Risk Index 2026 analyzes the human and economic impacts of 9,700 extreme weather events that occurred between 1995 and 2024, identifying which countries have been most affected. The report reveals more than 832,000 deaths and direct losses exceeding USD 4.5 trillion. It highlights that Global South countries are the most severely impacted, with Dominica, Myanmar, and Honduras standing out in the long-term analysis, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada, and Chad in 2024. The report also incorporates the role of climate change according to attribution studies, showing the increased frequency and intensity of these phenomena. It concludes with urgent policy recommendations on mitigation, adaptation, and international financing
