MAP20071014537Thurber, SarahTeach your workers to take safe habits home : two-thirds of lost-time injuries happen off the job / by Sarah ThurberSumario: Safety managers devote their careers to protecting employees on the job. According to statistics from the National Safety Council, in 1990, three out of four injuries and more than half the facilities suffered by workers took place off the job. Exposure to injury off the job is almost double the time of exposure on the job. The costs, even for a single accident, can be astronomical. From safety-management perspective, off-the-job and work injuries are similar. They result from unsafe conditions or unsafe acts, or both. Companies can use similar means to prevent both types. Given the similarities, many companies assume that it is enough to teach safety at work - that the skills are transferable to off-the-job environmentsEn: Safety & health. - Itasca. - nº 6, June 1993 ; p. 62-661.
