520 | $aDuring the past 15 years several epidemiological studies have provided evidence of an increased risk of neuropsychiatric illness in workers exposed over a long period to various solvents. In two studies cases were limited to dementia or Alzheimer's disease; in the remainder, case definition covered a wide range of psychiatric diagnoses. After reanalysis by Axelson in 1982 of the case referent study with which he was previously associated, the highest risk was found in pensioners with senile or pre-senile dementia. This diagnostic group was also identified, although only after reclassification, in a Danish cohort. Other investigators have found the highest risk in neuroses, psychoses, affective psychoses, or non-psychotic conditions. Three reports have drawn attention to an increased risk of alcohol related neuropsychiatric disease in men exposed to solvents | ||
