Sumario: Pertrol leaks seem to be largely responsible for the fact that some 60 per cent of car fires occur in the engine compartment. These leaks are usually due to the flexible fuel lines becoming porous or due to the lines loosening at the spigots. Though the source of ignition is usually electrical, it can also in theory be due to auto-ignition or spontaneous combustion
