A significant economy is obtained if the volume rate of air extracted can be halved. Such a reduction is acceptable if it occurs when the sash is closed to half the maximum aperture so that the design face velocity is maintained. This can achieved by coupling the fan to a two-speed electric motor controlled by a limit switch automatically actuated by the fumecupboard sash</subfield>
