Sumario: In the Regular Interlaboratory Counting Exchanges (RICE) scheme, laboratories evaluating asbestos on membrane filters are being placed in one of three categories depending on their results on 32 slides. The probability of success is governed by the binomial distribution, which is used en the paper to examine some aspects of the relationship of a laboratory's routine performance to its chance of success in RICE, and the effect of basing trials on other numbers of slides
