<abstract displayLabel="Summary">En este artículo se presentan recomendaciones que se aplican a la operación y al mantenimiento de los esmeriles portátiles para operaciones ferrosas solamente (operaciones en hierro y acero). Estas son únicamente recomendaciones mínimas y donde no ofrezcan resguardo suficiente será necesario adoptar las medidas dictadas por las circunstancias especiales. Los esmeriles portátiles a que se refiere este artículo emplean ruedas abrasivas desmontables de diámetro inferior a 23 cm.. El riesgo potencial de una lesión grave puede ser bastante alto si se llega a romper una rueda. Por esta razón, se deben cumplir en todo momento con los procedimientos que reducen a un mínimo las posibilidades de rotura de las piedras</abstract>
