Physical work capacity in hot environments can be reduced considerably when protective clothing must be worn. This results from both the weight and nature of protective clothing, as well as the inherent restrictions to heat dissipation. Impaired heat loss is due largely to the high thermal insulation and low vapour permeability characteristic of these garments and may threaten worker health as well as productivity
