Sumario: Many paper box manufacturing plants have problems with noise: in particular, the noise associated with the pneumatic stripping hammer used to remove excess material from the boxes. In response to this, the Liberty Mutual Research Center conducted tests in 1983 on stripping hammers to determine whether there were ways to reduce noise through the use of retrofit components or silencing devices. This paper reports on those experiments, and it offers recommendations for manufacturers and users
