520  ‎$a‎This report describes a work site investigation of a small company producing carbide tip saw blades for the lumber and wood working industry. This investigation was initiated after three workers at the company were diagnosed as having respiratory conditions, including specific diagnoses of hard metal lung diseases in two workers. Metal exposure at this company was characterized by ambient air monitoring, particle size determination, and urine monitoring for cobalt. The possibility that coolants may have contributed to airborne cobalt exposure was investigated by analysis of coolant samples collected at this and similar work sites and by laboratory experimentation
