Sumario: New types of fibrous materials, used as substitutes for asbestos, cause serious hygienic problems and are classified as proved carcinogens. Currently, wollastonite, a mineral asbestos substitute, attracts considerable attention. It has membranolytic effects on erythrocytes and in vitro experiments it caused morphological and functional changes in lung macrophages. The authors decided, therefore, to determine its fibrogenicity in vivo
