<dc:description xml:lang="es">Sumario: The goal of the safety-management system is to reduce the number and severity of motor-vehicle crashes. The system itself is not the end product, but it will provide additionnal information to help state and local officials use limited resources wisely. The program encourages coordination and cooperation among key organizations responsible for safety in each state. An official from every state appoints a focal-point person, who in turn must solicit input from key players in the traffic-safety; enforcement agencies; emergency response; motor-carrier safety; motor-vehicle administration; the public-health community; railroad and trucking regulatory agencies; and safety-advocacy groups.
