<abstract displayLabel="Summary">Existen ya pruebas científicas de que ciertos contaminantes pueden afectar a nuestra salud. Necesitamos, sin embargo, saber esta pregunta: ¿hasta qué punto? Teniendo en cuenta el enardecido debate sobre los costos del monitoreo ambiental, este tema merece una atención mucho mayor. Para tener una idea sobre la forma en que el medio ambiente interactúa con la salud pública se necesita apoyo político y dinero. Hasta que no se logren ambos objetivos, nosotros no podemos decir realmente cuán contaminado se encuentra nuestra planeta y hasta qué punto debemos preocuparnos por él</abstract>
