<abstract displayLabel="Summary">Some workers wear respirators in potentially toxic and lethal environments where any lapse in safety can result in serious injury or death. Proper equipment, however, is only part of an adequate respirator protection program. Training, motivation, medical evaluation, fit testing and respirator maintenance are also vital. NIOSH and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration are two of the three federal agencies, the Environmental Protection Agency is the third, that are responsible for respirator safety</abstract>
