<abstract displayLabel="Summary">The author explains that while ESFR technology is state of the art, it is not a panacea for all fire protection problems. The emergence of the early-suppression/fast response (ESFR) sprinkler caught the interest of the fire protection community worldwide by offering the double advantages of enhanced fire protection and the elimination of the need for in-rack sprinklers. As ESFRs move from infancy into adolescence, they are not surprinsingly seeing clear signs of the inevitable growing pains. As with any new technology, there is a learning curve; a knowledgeable audience is required to know how -and perhaps even if- they should use ESFR sprinklers</abstract>
