Sumario: Many job-related threats to workers'health result from cumulative or ongoing exposure to hazards such as noise, dust, chemicals or repeated motion. One instance of exposure isn't likely to bring on acute symptoms of illness or injury. Screening is an important part of an occupational-medicine program. In most cases, it involves evaluating a cross-section of workers to identify early signs of occupational diseases or injuries. Surveillance goes a stpe beyond screening. Its goal is to assess the health of people who may already have been exposed to occupational hazards. A good surveillance program will analyze both individuals and groups of workers
