This is an essential step if performance-based regulations are going to deliver improved fire safety consisten with better designed, innovative and cost-effective builings for a competitive society. While the guidelines have drawn on a number of international developments, including the extensive work in the UK, there is still much to be done. A cornerstone of the programme in Australia is the introduction of much wider use of risk assessment techniques into fire safety design of buildings</dc:description>
