Sumario: The goal of the current research was to explore specific interface design strategies for constraining the degrees of freedom to see if they do indeed improve operator performance in monitoring and controlling complex high-technology systems. This was done in a particular environment -Intensive Care Unit monitoring- that epitomizes the challenges to designers and operators alike. The premise is that degrees of freedom will be reduced, an operator performance improved, by making relevant sub-system links visible in the display
