<abstract displayLabel="Summary">This paper attempts to provide a perspective on how the role of human factors in traffic systems is changing and why it will undergo even more dramatic changes in the future. To understand these changes, it is necessary to view human factors within ghe context of advances in transportation technology and engineering. This paper will provide a brief overview of the traditional scope of human factors in traffic application, provide a technological context for current changes, and identify emerging human factors priorities</abstract>
