<subfield code="a">The purpose of the present study was to determine what basic acoustic characteristics are needed for beacon to be considered effective under a noisy operational conditions. Specially, the following issues were examined in this study: the effect of various beacon characteritics on human accuracy in turning toward the direction of the beacon; the difference between performance in real and virtual environments on human accuracy in turning toward the acoustic beacon, and the perceived sound quality of different sounds to de used as acoustic beacons</subfield>
