<abstract displayLabel="Summary">This report analyzes the performance of the insurance sector in nineteen Latin American countries in 2018 and its evolution in the period 2008-2018, including a review of the main regulatory and legislative changes that are taking place in the region. In addition, the study provides an overview of insurance activity in Latin America, examining the economic and sectoral factors that have influenced their behavior. The volume of aggregate premiums stood at 150.6 billion dollars in 2018, representing 3% of global insurance premiums. With a population of over 600 million inhabitants, the per capita expenditure on insurance in Latin America was $ 247 in the last year and the penetration rate (premiums / GDP) stood at 2.9% On the other hand, The deepening index, which is the ratio of life insurance premiums to total premiums, rose to 44.6%. Although all these indicators have had a positive evolution in the last decade, they are still far from reaching a level of insurance considered economically necessary and beneficial for society, placing the estimate of the Insurance Protection Gap of Latin American markets at 254.3 billions of dollars in 2018</abstract>
