<abstract displayLabel="Summary">En el presente trabajo se evalúan las posibilidades de aprovechamiento de las labores mineras de la Cuenca Carbonífera Central asturiana como embalses subterráneos, tanto desde el punto de vista de su aprovechamiento hídrico, como energético, fundamentalmente mediante bombas de calor y minicentrales de bombeo. Para ello se ha escogido un «embalse subterráneo» configurado por las labores conectadas de los pozos Barredo y Figaredo y se ha realizado un detallado estudio climático, hidrológico e hidrogeológico, hidroquímico y de conductividades térmicas, cuantificando los potenciales aprovechamientos. Se pretende contribuir así a la mejora de las condiciones económicas y sociales de un área tradicionalmenteminera y en progresivo declive debido al cese de tal actividad.</abstract>
