During the period 1993 to 1999, life insurance premiums rose by more than 17% per annum on average after adjustment for inflation. The five Eastern Central European countries where life insurance has posted the strongest expansion have all enjoyed stable, dynamic growth rates, which in many cases were higher than 20% per annum toward the end of the decade</dc:description>
