Sumario: The industry needs to mind nonpeak zone risks when underwriting, reinsurers attending Rendez-vous de Septembre in Monte Carlo warned, citing lessons learned from 2011's catastrophe losses. Surprising events in terms of either location or swerity, included the Thailand floods, the tsunami that accompanied the March 11 earthquake in Japan, an unusual number of tornadoes in the United States and, this year, the agricuitural disaster triggered by severe drought in the U.S. Midwest. Reinsurance executives inevitably were asked about Vaiidus' recent acquisition of Flagstone Re and whether that signaled the beginning of a wave of mergers and acquisitions among reinsurers
