<abstract displayLabel="Summary">Se presenta un estudio de cuatro rocas sedimentarias detríticas de grano fino (lutitas) de la cuenca cantábrica, a partir de 57 muestras tomadas en siete secciones. El interés en su estudio radica en que podrían albergar cantidades apreciables de gas natural y-o configurar un almacén adecuado de CO2. Tras su caracterización mediante técnicas mineralógicas y geoquímicas e integrando los resultados obtenidos, la roca más adecuada en cuanto a su potencial contenido en gas natural es el Paquete Fresnedo, que aparece en el límite oriental de la Cuenca Carbonífera Central. Aunque no se descarta el uso de estas rocas como almacén de CO2, los acuíferos salinos serían, en principio, una opción más atractiva</abstract>
