<abstract displayLabel="Summary">La Comisión de Terremotos de Nueva Zelanda (EQC), el sistema público neozelandés para la cobertura aseguradora de los riesgos geológicos, que funciona en cooperación con el sector privado, tuvo que afrontar entre 2010 y 2011 una de las mayores pruebas a nivel mundial para un sistema de catástrofes: la secuencia de terremotos de Canterbury. Este artículo explica detalladamente las vicisitudes experimentadas por la EQC en la gestión de esta crisis, cómo todo el sistema tuvo que adaptarse rápidamente para hacer frente a una catástrofe de una escala hasta entonces inimaginable y presenta las lecciones que se pueden extraer seis años después. </abstract>
