520  ‎$a‎XL's acquisition of Catlin may have been a big ticket buy, with the specialty insurer paying $2.79bn for the privilege in 2015, but the price tag pales in comparison to the $15.3bn mega deal that saw Axa snap up the combined operations last year. It was a bold move - particularly with early suggestions that rival insurer Allianz was sniffing around for the deal- that would birth the largest global property and casualty insurer in the world, with revenues upwards of 48bn.
